To that mother who never heard words like “I’m proud of you” or “you are valuable” or “I’m sorry”
To that mother who lacked of mentors, fathers or those who would encourage you to fight your way out of poverty, addiction, sin or illiteracy
To that mother who was frowned at by other parents or your children’s friends
To that mother who by coercion, molestation, naivety or rape birthed children and yet loved and sacrificed for them
To that mother who has no finances, but can gift to her children Jesus Christ
To that mother who loves her children even though they disrespect her or show no love to her
To that mother who made mistakes
To that mother who was never there
To that mother who has been abandoned
To that mother who never had pretty clothes or Sunday hats or shoes
To that mother who needs, seeks or has found deliverance from addiction
To that mother behind bars, behind enemy lines of a military zone or behind in her child support payments…
There is possibly no card that speaks of your struggles or your worth. You may not have a bouquet of roses awaiting you. Someone may feel that you are undeserving of being called “Mother”. You may not have an invitation to a dinner that honors you.
Well…this is for you!
I want you to know that God loves even and especially you. No matter how unique, how complicated, how abbreviated, how hurtful or mistake plagued your parenting has been, God loves you. He knows your hurt. He knows the wounds you have caused as well as the wounds incurred by you. He wants, this day, that you know Him and know that His grace is sufficient and His son’s blood is still healing and cleansing after all this time!
God’s commandment to honor you mother was the first commandment that He attached a promise to (Deuteronomy 5:16).
